Well, it’s that time of the year when Guest Lecturers start descending on the peaceful shores of the paradise that is IIM Indore. We had our Fifth Foundation Day Celebrations today and the Guest of Honor was Ms Anu Aga of Thermax fame.
She narrated her experiences regarding how she took over the reins of Thermax after the untimely demise of her husband Rohington Aga and her son sometime in late 1996 and early 1997. The topic of her lecture was something like “From Turnaround to Transformation” and as is evident the crux of her talk was about how she was handed a successful but complacent company to run and how the company suffered from the “frog in boiling water” syndrome. She was quite candid as regards how she managed to get Thermax out of the syndrome and turn it around and prepare it for the transformation.
In any case, it was quite a good lecture in the sense that it reinforced the fact that none of us can afford to be complacent with our strengths without working on our weaknesses. It also repeated the constant threat of change invading our personal and professional lives and how we could probably watch out for early indicators of such change and be moderately prepared for the same.
All in all it was an evening well spent.
