Leh-Ladakh, Day 1

Well, after a helluva lot of proscrastination, here goes an account of our first day of travel in the hills.

First of a
ll the trip began on a completely wrong note with a goods train derailing just about 15 odd kms from Nizamuddin Railway station in New Delhi which resulted in us jumping out of our train near the Badarpur border between New Delhi and Haryana, traipsing around like tramps with our luggage for around 20 odd minutes before we found a rickety old bus which transported us to near the railway station where our Chevrolet Tavera was waiting to take us to Manali.

The night spent at Manali was quite uneventful except for the fact that all of our bags got wet, courtesy the driver who assured us that the downpour outside was nothing but a mere drizzle and would not affect our bags in any way at all.

Anyways, the following are a few photos of day 1 of our travels which covers our journey from Manali to the Sarchu camp based on a lovely valley.

Govar pointing out the amazing view from the Rohtang La top

Pure interplay of the sun, skies and shadows

Gata 21 loops leading to Surajtal, birthplace of the Bagha river

Lovely view of the Surajtal lake

Baralachla, the pass surrounded by 12 mountains on all sides (surrounded by Govar, Venkat, and Senthil)

That’s about it for Day 1 of the trip. Keep watching this space for updates of the following days.
